Audie Murphy is one of the most decorated American combat soldiers in U. S. history with his service being in World War II. His highest honor is The Congressional Medal of Honor. Murphy was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery with Ambassador to the U.N. George H. W. Bush ( future President of the United States ) and Army Chief of Staff William Westmoreland. Murphy's grave-site is in Section 46, headstone number 46-366-11, located across Memorial Drive from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Per Murphy's request, his stone remains plain and inconspicuous, like that of an ordinary soldier.
