Artist's Description

The United Daughters of the Confederacy approved a design from Frederick C. Hibbard of Chicago for the Confederate Memorial which was dedicated on May 17, 1917. These two soldiers are on the left side of the monument with the soldier in the rear, cavalryman frustrated that his horses were not able to penetrate the dense undergrowth on the battlefield to support the Confederate battle plan. Behind him, a representation of an officer corps bows his head at the knowledge that he has been unable to bring a victory.

I am a San Diego based landscape and wildlife photographer, born and raised in Stockton, Illinois ( the 'S' is - not - pronounced ). I am one of the many that came to San Diego for a visit and just kept delaying my plans to go home. Although my heart is still pulled to the rural and slower lifestyle of growing up in farm country, my life is in and around San Diego. Over the years, I've grown to appreciate the big city lifestyle, but I always crave getting outside, discovering new places, reaching for those places that remind me of my youth, and to find connections with folks that are also from Northwest Illinois.
