Artist's Description
Lenox College located in Hopkinton, Iowa operated from 1859 until its closure in 1944. The institution was initially known as Bowen Collegiate Institute, but the name was changed to Lenox Collegiate Institute in 1864 and to Lenox College in 1884. Several buildings that were part of the former college campus are on the National Register of Historic Places and is part of the Delaware County Historical Museum Complex.
It was noted to have a Princeton atmosphere from the Ivy League schools in the Northeast, but at a much more affordable cost. J.M. McKean, who had become the institute's president in 1863, and 91 of the college's 92 students enlisted to fight for the Union causing the school to close temporarily. McKean and 27 of those students didn't return.

I am a San Diego based landscape and wildlife photographer, born and raised in Stockton, Illinois ( the 'S' is - not - pronounced ). I am one of the many that came to San Diego for a visit and just kept delaying my plans to go home. Although my heart is still pulled to the rural and slower lifestyle of growing up in farm country, my life is in and around San Diego. Over the years, I've grown to appreciate the big city lifestyle, but I always crave getting outside, discovering new places, reaching for those places that remind me of my youth, and to find connections with folks that are also from Northwest Illinois.
